{"id":1376,"date":"2016-10-02T22:25:11","date_gmt":"2016-10-02T22:25:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/?p=1376"},"modified":"2018-04-02T21:37:11","modified_gmt":"2018-04-03T01:37:11","slug":"separate-meals-for-picky-eaters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/2016\/10\/separate-meals-for-picky-eaters\/","title":{"rendered":"Should we make separate meals for picky eaters?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yes, our little ones\u00a0are special.\u00a0\u00a0 Every single one of them! \u00a0But should we make special and\u00a0separate meals for picky eaters?<\/p>\n<p>However,\u00a0it doesn&#8217;t mean that moms and dads should\u00a0go out of their way to make alternate meals\u00a0just for them&#8230;and then have to whip up\u00a0another meal to suit the rest of the family. \u00a0Let&#8217;s talk about how to handle\u00a0separate meals for picky eaters.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #fe547b;\">The survey says&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>1 in 4 children who are &#8220;picky eaters&#8221; continue\u00a0to be picky as adults.<\/strong>\u00a0 In other words, 25% do not outgrow their reluctance to try new foods unless the right mealtime strategies are used. (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.parentingscience.com\/picky-eater.html\">Source<\/a>). \u00a0And unfortunately, preparing the same few favourite foods and separate meals is one sure way to limit their exposure and ability to grow out of picky eating.<\/p>\n<p>So, from one mom (with a former picky eater) to another&#8230;.I have to tell you that it&#8217;s super important we set our kids up for healthier eating habits\u00a0sooner than later. \u00a0That&#8217;s exactly why I show parents exactly how to do this (step-by-step) in the 6-week online program &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pickyeaterprotocol.com\">The Picky Eater Protocol<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2600\" src=\"http:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_1796-e1483987665677-1024x1001.jpg\" alt=\"separate meals for picky eaters\" width=\"603\" height=\"589\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_1796-e1483987665677-1024x1001.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_1796-e1483987665677-300x293.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_1796-e1483987665677-768x750.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_1796-e1483987665677-610x596.jpg 610w, https:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_1796-e1483987665677-1080x1055.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_1796-e1483987665677.jpg 1530w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 603px) 100vw, 603px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #fe547b;\">Alternate meals can backfire<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Pressure is one of the biggest reasons why\u00a0our kids don&#8217;t eat well. \u00a0Often parents are surprised when I pinpoint things they innocently say or do. \u00a0 Things that I did at most meals, unaware they were making things worse.<\/p>\n<p>Preparing separate meals for our picky eaters can actually put pressure on them\u00a0to eat it. \u00a0 Even more so if\u00a0we say &#8220;<em>L<\/em><i>ook what mom made JUST for you<\/i>&#8220;. \u00a0\u00a0The interpretation for most kids will be this: \u00a0&#8220;<em>Gosh, mommy made this just for me. \u00a0That means I have to eat it or she will be disappointed.&#8221; \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #fe547b;\">But what if they ASK for an alternate\u00a0meal?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Even if your child requests\u00a0pasta for dinner, you might not make it the way they want it (the pasta is too soft, has too much or too little sauce).
