Especially if you think you don&#8217;t have the time.<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>As someone once asked me, <strong>you often think about getting\u00a0quality time with you husband.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong>But when was the last time you had quality time alone?\u00a0 <\/strong><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><strong>My answer: NEVER!\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>I go to the gym daily, and I work alone for the most part.\u00a0 But that doesn&#8217;t count.<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>I needed to book a &#8216;real date&#8217; in the calendar and get out of the darn house.\u00a0 Because there&#8217;s no such thing as quiet time at home.\u00a0The most alone time I get is in the bathroom or shower with kids banging on the door, or a baby crying in the background.\u00a0 Hardly relaxing!<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>So after you get into the swing of things getting back to work, book a date with yourself. No friends, no family, and the hardest part for me&#8230;no phone.\u00a0 I desperately wanted to use the quiet time to call friends, respond to emails, or send text messages.\u00a0 But I forced myself to to just sit at the restaurant and take it in.<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-5015 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/39020747_250472745591239_7765307957864038400_n1-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"671\" height=\"671\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/39020747_250472745591239_7765307957864038400_n1-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/39020747_250472745591239_7765307957864038400_n1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/39020747_250472745591239_7765307957864038400_n1-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/39020747_250472745591239_7765307957864038400_n1-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/39020747_250472745591239_7765307957864038400_n1-500x500.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/39020747_250472745591239_7765307957864038400_n1-610x610.jpg 610w, https:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/39020747_250472745591239_7765307957864038400_n1.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 671px) 100vw, 671px\" \/><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>I put on a skirt, straightened my hair, and wore some makeup (because who goes on a date in their Lulu Lemons, right?)<\/div>\n<div>I chewed my food slowly (didn&#8217;t have to shove it in my mouth to rush home for the kids)<\/div>\n<div>I savoured every bite (didn&#8217;t have to worry about whether my girls were eating or behaving beside me, because they weren&#8217;t there).<\/div>\n<div>I even sat at the bar and ordered myself a drink.<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>(But I forgot to take the two-week old polish off my nails.\u00a0 Oops!)<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><strong>It was the most therapeutic thing I have done for myself lately.\u00a0<\/strong>Time to reflect, refresh, and just be in the moment.<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>And as I continue to have my little dates, I always come back feeling like a better wife and parent.\u00a0 So it&#8217;s a win-win-win for everyone in the family.\u00a0 My husband now pushes me out the door!<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><strong>Here are some ideas for you:\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Go for a solo dinner (and sit at the bar)<\/li>\n<li>Go for brunch (my favourite meal of the day)<\/li>\n<li>Go for a coffee (or wine!)<\/li>\n<li>Go on a retreat (who says it just has to be an hour, take the weekend and get truly refreshed)<\/li>\n<li>Go for a walk (ideally among trees and no honking horns to help clear your head)<\/li>\n<li>Read a book<\/li>\n<li>Get a massage<\/li>\n<li>Sit on a park bench and walk the world go by<\/li>\n<li>Get some ice cream (yes even nutritionists have ice cream sometimes)!<\/li>\n<li>Most importantly, sleep (did you know that the benefits of a 20 minute nap equate to an hour of sleep at night?)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0cb1a1;\"><b>#3 &#8211; But all you need are the basics in place with the three things you need on your plate at every meal and snack.\u00a0 When you do have these three things you won&#8217;t have to deal with the 3pm office cravings, or the energy crash that needs to be remedied with caffeine.<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>When you eat these three things you&#8217;ll come home with the energy to play, cook, and even calmly respond to cranky kids.<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><strong>I call these three things PFF for short.\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Protein<\/b> (quality meats, like grass-fed beef, free range chicken, eggs, fish, seafood, legumes, etc)<\/li>\n<li><b>Fat<\/b> (quality fats from sustainably sourced fish, seafood, nuts, seeds, avocado, coconut milk, olive oil, etc)<\/li>\n<li><b>Fiber<\/b> (mostly veggies, some fruit, and grains optional)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>Try to aim for veggies on at least half of your plate.\u00a0 The fiber will fill you up and keep you satiated longer (along with the fat and protein).\u00a0 For example, last night we had grass-fed sausage, swiss chard, sweet potato stir-fry with a side chopped salad (cucumbers, tomatoes, avocado, peppers).\u00a0 Loads of veggies, coupled with fats and protein.<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>That&#8217;s what&#8217;s in our lunch today too.\u00a0 Speaking of which&#8230;<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>A bonus tip for you: pack lunches immediately after dinner (while putting the food away).\u00a0 This way you don&#8217;t have to worry about it during the morning rush.\u00a0 Just grab that lunch box as you run out the door.<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>Opting for quick\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/2017\/02\/2730\/\">breakfasts like these for you and your family<\/a>\u00a0are also incredibly helpful during the work week.<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><em>What are your strategies for getting your through the back-to-work transition?\u00a0 Share below!<\/em><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Getting kids ready in the morning, getting yourself ready, making breakfast, travelling to work, battling through traffic, being on your A-game at the office, rushing home from work, making dinner, feeding the family, getting them to bed, packing lunches. .
