One of her first meat-y foods was this&#8230;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/2016\/05\/chicken-nuggets\/\">ultimate chicken nuggets<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Given her meat intake was sooooo low, you bet I was searching high and low for any and all other protein options.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s what I am here to tell you.\u00a0 Protein doesn&#8217;t start and stop at animal protein.\u00a0 \u00a0They do have other wonderful nutrients, but for the purpose of macronutrient needs, there are other options. Yay!<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>First, let&#8217;s talk about what protein is!<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>It is one of three macronutrients that our food contains (carbohydrates and fats are the other two).<\/p>\n<p>Protein is the body&#8217;s main building block.<\/p>\n<p>It helps form muscle, produce hormones, strengthen skin and bones, and transport nutrients. In addition to protein, they have tons of fibre which is so important for digestive health and blood sugar control. It&#8217;s a great source of B vitamins, magnesium, iron, and probiotics. An 80 gram serving of tempeh contains <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">16 grams of protein<\/span>! Simple preparation: marinate the tempeh in olive oil, tamari, garlic and other spices of your choice for at least 20 minutes and then bake it for 15 to 20 minutes at 350 degrees F. Or you can make tempeh &#8216;bacon&#8217; by slicing the tempeh then sprinkling it with some salt, garlic powder and smoked paprika. Then pan fry in a bit of coconut oil, a couple of minutes on each side.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-5546 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/nuts-seeds-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/nuts-seeds.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/nuts-seeds-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/nuts-seeds-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/nuts-seeds-610x407.jpg 610w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Nuts and seeds\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>&#8211; these are a great source of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc, and vitamin E. Half a cup of cooked quinoa has <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">6 grams of protein<\/span>.
