They are everywhere &#8211; when she draws, paints, on her birthday cake, and even her underwear.\u00a0 She asked for rainbow hair and I said no.\u00a0 But when rainbow popsicles were requested, I obliged.<\/p>\n<p>To be honest, I was pretty excited about doing this little experiment with her.\u00a0 And attempting whole food rainbow popsicles.\u00a0 Not the artificially died ones.\u00a0 Extra perk&#8230;I got to spend quality time with one of my daughters!<\/p>\n<p>By the way, when I make snacks &#8211; especially popsicles &#8211; I make A LOT.\u00a0 So we are set for a week or two.\u00a0 These whole food rainbow popsicles were the perfect snack to cool off after swimming and playing in the summer heat.\u00a0 Love that I could just whip them out of the freezer and have a snack ready for them in seconds.\u00a0 I shared them on my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CB52V9ahTtw\/\">Instagram page<\/a> and parents loved it.\u00a0 Hope you do too!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-6785 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/4B6D2351-66F4-47CE-987D-60F1B2218090-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"550\" \/><\/p>\n<p>What I didn&#8217;t realize was how long this experiment was going to take.\u00a0 Nor how messy things would get trying to swap between colours.\u00a0 We spent about an hour going from one colour to the next and searching for the best ingredients.\u00a0 I was pretty proud that we made all 5 colours with whole foods.\u00a0 A whole foods rainbow popsicle for the win!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll be the first one to say that it isn&#8217;t the prettiest looking treats.\u00a0 Truth is, I was more focused on nailing the colours with foods and veggies (not food dyes).\u00a0 So the measuring and balancing were less of a focus.\u00a0 Leaving us with uneven, inconsistent layers. Oops!<\/p>\n<p>But you know what&#8230;.the girls didn&#8217;t bat an eye.\u00a0 They licked these whole fruit and veggie rainbow popsicles up so fast it didn&#8217;t really matter how they looked.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-6774 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/fullsizeoutput_6191-768x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"497\" height=\"661\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how we made them.<\/p>\n<h1><strong>WHOLE FOOD <span style=\"color: #993366;\">R<\/span><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">A<\/span><span style=\"color: #339966;\">I<\/span><span style=\"color: #eded1a;\">N<\/span><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">B<\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">O<\/span><span style=\"color: #993366;\">W<\/span> POPSICLES\u00a0<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Note: that because this was more of an experiment there aren&#8217;t any measurements. General rule is that if you&#8217;re using frozen fruit\/veggies<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>RED<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Blend fresh <strong>strawberries<\/strong> (or frozen with a touch of liquid)<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Tip<\/strong><\/em>: You can also add a fresh beet for a veggie boost and a more rich and deeper red colour.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>ORANGE<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Blend fresh <strong>oranges<\/strong> (I added a few tablespoons of <strong>hemp seeds<\/strong> for protein and fat)<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Tip<\/strong><\/em>: Fresh oranges are better than juice because it maintains the fiber\/pulp.\u00a0 Most orange juices are highly manufactured, so the real deal is always better, right?<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #d6d611;\"><strong>YELLOW<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Blend <strong>banana<\/strong> with splash of <strong>coconut<\/strong> milk (for some healthy fat)<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Tip<\/strong><\/em>: Always opt for a coconut milk that comes in a BPA-free lining (or carton without added water) like these ones in <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3ihoB0E\">Canada<\/a>, in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/AROY-D-100-Coconut-Milk-packages\/dp\/B005HFOB0S\/ref=sr_1_21?crid=JHKHI4CIGTR8&amp;dchild=1&amp;keywords=coconut+milk+bpa+free&amp;qid=1593533125&amp;sprefix=coconut+milk+BPA+%2Caps%2C167&amp;sr=8-21\">US<\/a>, in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Biona-Organic-Coconut-Milk-Pack\/dp\/B006JNX0R2\/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&amp;keywords=bpa-free+coconut+milk&amp;qid=1593533008&amp;s=drugstore&amp;sr=1-1-catcorr\">UK<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><strong>GREEN<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Blend frozen or fresh <strong>avocado<\/strong> and <strong>spinach<\/strong> (I added orange pieces for sweetness and liquid like coconut milk).<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Want to give your green popsicle a nutrition boost?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can also add <strong>spirulina<\/strong> for a brighter green colour and big boost of nutrition. Spirulina is an algae and a vegetarian source of protein.\u00a0 It&#8217;s high in calcium, magnesium (a better source\/alternative than milk) as well as vitamin B12 and iron.\u00a0 \u00a0It does have a &#8220;seaweed-y&#8221; flavour so just a teaspoon will do to start.\u00a0 Taste test and add more if you life.
