There are a bajillion things to do before getting your kids out of the house or ready for online learning. They want to sleep in or take their time getting ready. In those moments, I find myself not being the \u2018fun mom\u2019. On the weekends though, when I have a bit more time, I go for this powerful breakfast item: green smoothie waffles.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s a game-changer.\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Smoothie Waffles provide a bit of extra fun on the weekends (or Monday mornings, if you freeze the leftovers). There is no food colouring involved as the title hints at\u2014although I am sure Naomi would love adding colouring, for some killer rainbow waffles, with her <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/2020\/06\/whole-food-rainbow-popsicles\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rainbow obsession<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is anyone else mildly obsessed with green food?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This may be strange to admit as a nutritionist, but it just feels&#8230;healthier.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/greenwaffles-e1619118093303.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-8341 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.daniellebinns.com\/stagingsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/greenwaffles-e1619118093303-1024x683.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other than their colour, green smoothie waffles have a few benefits over regular waffles:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Loaded with energy-rich foods<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Less high-fructose sugars<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Less refined grains<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Veggie boost for those picky eaters<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Super easy to make (blend ingredients and pop it into the waffle maker)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meal prep on the weekends and eat them throughout the week<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the other hand, the classic combo of waffles with syrup can contribute to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/nutrition\/10-worst-foods-in-the-morning#TOC_TITLE_HDR_3\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">obesity and diabetes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Waffles contain refined flour, and syrup is high in fructose corn syrup. If you or your children are sweet tooth and heavy-handed with it, these syrups and other sweet toppings can increase <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/nutrition\/10-worst-foods-in-the-morning#TOC_TITLE_HDR_3\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">insulin resistance<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight:
